![]() Then you get the final phase which I've yet to even beat without just nuking him down before he finishes taking my items. I don't know what it's like with melee characters, but with a ranged character I've yet to be hit during phase 1 or 3 other than by the spinning aoe attack (which is the only fun part of the fight since you actually have to actively dodge), and phase 2 is pure filler. I actually dislike the first 3 phases more than the final one, not because they are hard but because they feel like they serve no purpose but to waste your time before the final phase. Parts of RoR2 have just felt like someone *really* wanted their game to be as hard as possible, and made it so without thinking of making it fun, first. I do enjoy RoR, both 1 and 2, but these things feel like they need to be said I play these games because they are fun, the items and builds are interesting, the bosses and challenges are cool and (generally) reasonable difficulties. Taking away all that progress and fun of building up a character to the final stage- just to have it ripped away- is incredibly annoying already, and it's made worse by then *giving* that to the enemy.Īnd I haven't even touched on the level design and pain in the ass that escaping the moon is. But even if you can run the boss over on drizzle, that doesn't change the fact that the design is not a fun one. Without cheating, this becomes a pain point for people who just want to unlock everything, even if they prefer to play on lower difficulties. Some of these complaints are, of course, only really applicable on Monsoon, but there's an item unlock for beating the game- and thus Mithrix- on monsoon. It was mentioned in the patch notes that player agency mattered, but if you can only do 1 of X builds, and then trash it, you no longer have choice about playing the game the way you want. but this is a sad excuse for a good option. Option 2 is that you trash all of your items before the fight, so anything he gets isn't good enough to end your run anyway. Many other characters simply don't have the base damage output to keep up with this phase as well. there is no winning this fight sometimes, if you're mercenary or loader and he takes your items, you will be unable to fight him at close range. In many cases, Mithrix getting the player's items forces one of two situations option 1. Not every character has mobility, not every character can stay away from him to avoid getting killed instantly due to point 2 Mithrix getting all of the player's items is a terrible choice. The problem comes in two forms, first not every character can deal with this. Conceptually? not the worst idea I've heard of, making a player rely on their skill over a broken build is a fine idea to start with. ![]() The final stage of this fight is just not fun. That's already a pain point, but the bigger issue is the final stage. Often times I find myself asking why anyone would even buy an infusion, or PSG, or why we even gain health on level if we die so fast, they feel like useless items and mechanics. ![]() Dying instantly isn't fun, there's really no reason for there to even be a health bar in this game half the time. I still think the damage is too high, though I think that about every attack in this game. Those are well designed sections of this fight- for the most part. Maybe got a different item, moved better, or just played safer somehow. Now, during the first 3 stages- the first fight with him, the mob wave, and the second time you fight him, every death during those sections I feel like I could have done better. ![]() but most often, I die to his final stage without getting a chance to react or combat it, and every time I don't feel like there is anything I could have done about it. Another time I died simply because I didn't have any mobility options to avoid him hitting me multiple times, even while sprinting and doing my best to dodge. A few attempts, I have been completely one shot by him, without One Shot Protection seeming to work at all, with his swings. Mithrix is just not a boss design I agree with from a standpoint of wanting a fun or interesting encounter, much less the final one of a run. I'l try and keep things brief, because I'm sure it's been said before somewhere and probably more competently than I could manage, but I'll do my best. ![]()
